All met at Dad's, Lenny drove to Lake Pleasant in Dad's car. Dead burros near Park Entrance, sad. Pretty nice weather, a little cloudy and breezy. We accidentally sat in the dog area of the restaurant, but it was OK. (Only one dog, and he was nice.) :)
Ellen took a few a pics, and the waitress took a group shot.
Drive past Payson to Tonto Natural Bridge, Harry's truck.
On the way up we saw smoke on the road up ahead, it was a vehicle on fire! We passed a group of sad-looking people standing on the side of the road, looking ahead to their truck, which was engulfed in flames. As we passed the truck the heat was incredible.
On to The Bridge, which is a State Park, $7 per person. Harry was scoping things out for his upcoming drone photo gig. Weather still a little hot! Everyone walked over to the viewpoint and trail area; the kids :) walked down to the creek that flows under the bridge. Very interesting!
Ellen and Harry also checked out the path to the viewpoint of the other side.
El Rancho in Payson for lunch, it's a nice place! Harry and Ellen had huge chimichangas, and Dad and Lenny split a burger.
Another nice trip, the last real road trip before Dad moves out of his house to Fellowship Village.
Stoneman Lake Road, then some other roads to the Secret Pottery Place. It's a long way. There were cows.
From the main road, we all walked in the quarter mile or so to the pottery area. It's kind of a creek area, and is JUST LITTERED with pottery shards, some it quite varied and interesting. Harry went back and brought the truck in a little farther, and then we all had a couple of hours of NIRVANA for people who appreciate Indian artifacts.
We examined hundred of pieces, including some very nice examples of texture and paint. No arrowheads or stone implements, alas.
Lunch under a nice shady tree, but even at the comparatively higher altitude it was starting to warm up. So we headed back down to town, and got home early enough so there was a little of the day left.
All of us in Harry's truck; we went to Jerome. We looked at the mechanism at the top of a
very deep mine shaft. We visited a
museum with a lot of cool mining stuff and old-time gear.We ate at a restaurant in a touristy shop area
up on the hill. That’s about all I remember
about that one.Another nice trip! Link to Ellen's pics.
Everyone was along, we went thru Wickenburg,
then North. Turned off on the road to Yarnell. We stopped at a
viewpoint near the trailhead to the memorial for the firefighters. It was
a pleasant place to hang out for a while; Harry flew his drone. We went
the short distance to the trailhead parking lot. There was very little
parking, and it was full except the short-term spots, so we couldn’t stay very
long. We proceeded onward towards Prescott, via
various rural highways, and stopped at a nice little lake. There was a
sick deer faun there hobbling around; it was very sad. We had lunch at the Golden Corral in
Prescott; it was noteworthy that ALL of us were now eligible for the senior
pricing. I don’t remember anything after that point,
but it can be assumed we had a nice drive home. :) Another nice trip! Here's the link to Ellen's
pics.
